Liberty Hill ISD is set to see a significant increase in its annual health care costs. The district currently pays around $5.9 million per year to cover health care for its 1,008 employees. However, due to a rise in the monthly rate of the state-sponsored Teacher Retirement System (TRS) health insurance plan, the district’s health care spending is expected to increase by $492,720 annually.
The New Plan
Under the new plan, the district will contribute an additional $20 per month per employee, while employees will pay $17 per month. This change is a result of the TRS health insurance plan’s new monthly rate, which has increased by $37 to $521. If the district were to cover the entire increase, its health care costs would rise to over $6.9 million in the 2026-27 school year.
The cost of health care has increased by $4 million in the last five years, according to district documents. The district’s trustees weighed three options for covering the increase and ultimately approved a plan for the district to cover $20 of the $37 monthly increase.
