Lexington had plenty of reasons to celebrate this Fourth of July weekend, as the city marked America’s 250th birthday with a full slate of festivities — and one beloved local race hit a milestone of its own.
Residents turned out for a parade, live music, and a fireworks show that lit up the sky over downtown Lexington on July 4th, according to reports from WKYT and LEX 18 News. The celebration drew crowds despite an ongoing heatwave, with community members coming together to honor the nation’s semiquincentennial in style.
Adding to the festive atmosphere, the Bluegrass 10,000 marked its 50th anniversary with races through downtown Lexington on July 4th. The long-running road race, a beloved community tradition, brought runners and spectators together in the heart of the city to celebrate both the holiday and the event’s own golden milestone.
Earlier in the week, the City of Lexington also announced a World Cup Watch Party as the U.S. Men’s National Team advanced to the Round of 16, giving fans yet another reason to gather and cheer together. And the Annual Patriotic Concert at Gratz Park and Transylvania University added a musical note to the holiday week’s lineup of events.
From the starting line of the Bluegrass 10,000 to the final burst of fireworks overhead, Lexington showed up — and showed out — for a holiday weekend to remember.
