Leonardo Del Vecchio Resigns from EssilorLuxottica Management Roles

Leonardo Maria Del Vecchio, the son of the late founder of Luxottica, announced his resignation from two key positions at EssilorLuxottica, the Franco‑Italian eyewear conglomerate. Effective August 31, he will no longer serve as chairman of the Ray‑Ban brand or as the company’s chief strategy officer.

EssilorLuxottica confirmed the move on Tuesday, thanking Del Vecchio for his contributions to the group’s growth and the strategic vision first championed by his father. The company’s spokesperson added that the firm wishes him success in his upcoming venture.

According to the Italian daily MF‑Milano Finanza, Del Vecchio’s resignation letter criticized the management style of CEO Francesco Milleri, describing the organization as being run in a “distant” and “impersonal” manner.

The Del Vecchio family holding, Delfin, remains the largest shareholder in EssilorLuxottica, holding a 32.4% stake in the company.

Implications for the Eyewear Industry

Del Vecchio’s departure marks a notable shift in the leadership of one of the world’s largest eyewear manufacturers. While the company has not indicated any immediate operational changes, analysts will watch how the board addresses the concerns raised about corporate governance and strategic direction.

EssilorLuxottica continues to dominate the global market for glasses and sunglasses, with brands ranging from Ray‑Ban to Oakley and a broad portfolio of lenses and optical services. The firm’s next steps in strategy and branding will be closely monitored by investors and industry observers.
