Rochester joined the statewide celebration of Special Olympics athletes this week as the 2026 Law Enforcement Torch Run made its way through the city on Thursday, June 18. Officers and supporters carried the Flame of Hope along the route, continuing a beloved tradition that unites local law enforcement with the broader community in honoring the courage and spirit of Special Olympics competitors.
The Law Enforcement Torch Run is one of the most visible grassroots fundraising and awareness efforts for Special Olympics, with officers volunteering their time to carry the torch from community to community across Minnesota. Rochester’s leg of the run drew participants and well-wishers who lined the route to cheer on the runners and celebrate the athletes the event supports.
The torch run’s arrival in Rochester came during a week already full of community spirit. On Friday, June 19, Rochester also hosted its Juneteenth Jubilee Breakfast, bringing residents together to mark the historic occasion with food, fellowship, and reflection — another reminder of the city’s commitment to inclusive, community-centered celebration.
Together, these events showcased Rochester at its best: neighbors showing up for one another, honoring history, and championing those who inspire us all.
