Laurel Highlands Mustangs Win Section 2‑3A Golf Duel Over Thomas Jefferson

Laurel Highlands High School continued its flawless start to Section 2‑3A competition with a 195‑200 win over the Thomas Jefferson Jaguars on Thursday at South Union Township Municipal Golf Course. After a rare off‑day the previous week, head coach Mike Revak used the break to focus his team on range work and short‑game drills, a strategy that paid off in the tightly contested match.

Team Results and Standings

The Mustangs moved to 5‑0 both in the section and overall, while Thomas Jefferson fell to 2‑1 in the section and 4‑2 overall. Laurel Highlands will close the first half of section play on Sept. 3 against Elizabeth Forward at Youghiogheny Country Club. The Warriors have yet to meet the Jaguars, but a rematch is scheduled for Sept. 1.

Key Performances

Senior Kayden Smith opened with a birdie on the first hole and parred six of his remaining eight, finishing as the match medalist with a 37. Sophomore Damon Revak, fresh from a medalist round against Uniontown earlier in the week, posted a solid 39, birdieing the third hole and sinking par putts on five others.

Teammate Aiden Milsom also recorded a 39, birdieing the fourth hole and parring the majority of his round. Coach Revak praised the depth of the lineup, noting, “We had three guys shoot 39 today and were able to break 200 as a team.” Senior Dan O’Neal matched that 39 score with consistent par putts on six holes.

Senior Ryan Revak carded a 41, missing a potential birdie after a two‑stroke loss on one hole. Coach Revak said, “Ryan should have had a birdie, but he had a situation where he lost two strokes and bogeyed that hole. It was the right ruling, but he still had a great round.”

Jaguars’ Best Round

Thomas Jefferson’s top effort came from first‑starter Nathan Thatcher, who posted a 38 with birdies on the third, fifth, and ninth holes. Ryder Mulvihill and Jake Pritchard each recorded 40, while Max Jones and A.J. Weidmann closed the Jaguars’ scoring with 41 each.

Looking Ahead

Coach Revak emphasized that the team remains focused on upcoming challenges, especially the upcoming match at Thomas Jefferson’s home course. “We are happy with the result, but we know there is still a lot of golf to be played. We will be playing Thomas Jefferson later at their course, which will be another challenge,” he said.

The Mustangs’ strong start positions them well for the remainder of the season, and the community can look forward to more competitive golf as the section schedule progresses.
