Lancaster County Board Calls for Volunteers on New Data Center Task Force

Lincoln, Neb. – The Lancaster County Board of Commissioners announced a call for volunteers to serve on a newly formed Data Center Task Force. The task force will examine how data centers—critical hubs for internet traffic and cloud services—can be responsibly sited and regulated within the county.

Purpose and Scope of the Task Force

Commissioners explained that the task force’s mandate is to develop clear guidelines for future data center projects. This includes identifying potential locations that balance economic opportunity with community impact, as well as drafting procedural policies that streamline permitting while protecting local resources.

Volunteer Opportunities

Residents, business owners, and technical experts are invited to apply. Applicants should have an interest in technology, land use planning, or community development. The board emphasized that a diverse mix of perspectives will help ensure the guidelines serve both economic growth and the quality‑of‑life concerns of Lancaster County families.

Meeting Schedule and Application Details

The task force will convene six times over a three‑month period, beginning in October and concluding in December. Meetings will be held at the Lancaster County Administration Building and will be open to the public for comment.

Interested volunteers must submit a brief application outlining their background and why they wish to serve. Applications are accepted online through the county’s official website and must be received by September 25.

Why Data Centers Matter to the Community

Data centers are essential for the digital economy, supporting everything from streaming video to online banking. Properly locating these facilities can bring jobs, tax revenue, and improved broadband access to the region. At the same time, the board wants to avoid potential downsides such as excessive water use, noise, or traffic congestion.

Commissioners’ Outlook

Board Chairwoman Jane Doe expressed confidence that the task force will produce practical, family‑friendly recommendations. “Our goal is to attract forward‑thinking technology partners while safeguarding the values that make Lancaster County a great place to raise a family,” she said.

Deputy Commissioner John Smith added that the task force will coordinate with state agencies and private sector stakeholders to align local guidelines with broader industry standards.

How to Get Involved

Community members can learn more about the task force and submit applications by visiting the county’s dedicated webpage. The board encourages anyone with a stake in the county’s future—whether a farmer, small‑business owner, or tech professional—to consider serving.

By involving local voices early in the planning process, Lancaster County hopes to set a precedent for thoughtful, faith‑centered development that respects both tradition and innovation.
