Laguna Beach Search

A search is underway for a girl who was swept into the ocean in Laguna Beach, California, on Tuesday evening. The girl, her mother, and brother were walking along the sand at Treasure Island Beach when they were swept away by a big wave.

Two people who saw the family being swept away were able to rescue the mother and son, who are in stable condition. The search for the girl has expanded to include adjacent beaches, with divers, rescue vessels, and air resources being used.

Search Efforts

Laguna Beach Marine Safety is being assisted by the Orange County Sheriff’s Harbor Patrol and the U.S. Coast Guard in the search efforts. The National Weather Service has warned of high surf in the area, with waves expected to reach 5-8 feet through Thursday night.

The surf has been particularly high along beaches facing south or southwest due to large swells from the Southern Hemisphere’s winter storms. The city of Malibu could see waves of up to 10 feet, according to the National Weather Service.
