Laguna Beach Search for Missing Girl

A search is underway for a girl who was swept into the ocean with her family members in Laguna Beach. The incident occurred near Treasure Island Beach, where witnesses rescued the mother and one child, but another child is still missing.

Search Efforts

Laguna Beach Marine Safety personnel began searching for the girl Tuesday night, and the Orange County Sheriff’s Department Harbor Patrol and the United States Coast Guard later joined the effort. Two people who helped with the rescue were transported by the Laguna Beach Fire Department and are in stable condition.

Rip current warnings were issued due to high surf along the Southern California coast, with swells arriving Tuesday and building throughout the day. A Beach Hazards Statement issued by the National Weather Service warned of increasing wave heights and rip currents that can quickly pull a swimmer away from shore.
