On Oct. 1 at about 6:18 p.m., Lafourche Parish Sheriff’s Office deputies were dispatched to the home of Ken Urker in Lafourche Parish, Louisiana, after family members requested a welfare check. Urker, the partner of Gypsy Rose Blanchard and father of their daughter Aurora Raina, had not answered his phone or the door.
Family members discover the scene
Anita Blanchard, along with her husband Dylan and neighbor Justin Daigle, entered the residence through an unlocked bedroom window before deputies arrived. They found Urker lying unconscious on his bed, cold to the touch and not breathing.
Deputies confirmed the findings after entering the home. Urker’s face and arms were blue, and a paper towel placed on his left arm showed blotches of blood. A syringe, a handgun, and additional drug paraphernalia—including syringes, a spoon and a brown powdery substance—were located in the bathroom and on the nightstand.
Investigation ongoing
Law enforcement officials said Urker appeared to have been in that condition for an extended period before the call was made. An official cause of death has not yet been released, and the investigation remains active.
Gypsy Rose Blanchard, who gained national attention for her role in the killing of her abusive mother, expressed profound grief. In a statement to People magazine, she said, “I’ve screamed until my throat burns. There are no words that can express the depth of this loss.” She asked for privacy and compassion for their daughter and families during this painful time.
Urker and Blanchard’s relationship began while Blanchard was incarcerated. They later reunited in 2024 after Blanchard’s divorce from Ryan Anderson, and their daughter was born Dec. 28, 2024.
Authorities continue to gather evidence and will release further details as the case develops.
