Annelise Gruebmeyer, a 13-year-old from Keller, is leading a water drive to help homeless people in the area. The drive, which is organized by Calvary Lutheran Church and nonprofit homeless outreach organization When We Love, aims to raise $12,000 to purchase about 50,000 bottles of water.

Continuing a Legacy

The water drive was started by Drew Thomas, another Calvary Lutheran Church member, who took it on when he was about 7 years old. Thomas, now 18, is moving on to college and wanted to pass the program on to another child at the church. Annelise jumped at the opportunity to lead the drive, saying she wanted to help because she couldn’t imagine having to live on the streets in the heat every day.

When We Love distributes food, clothing, and other essentials to homeless people every day, and the water drive will help the organization provide water during the hot summer months. The drive started last week, and Annelise and her parents are using their church network, social media outreach, and friends and family to promote it.

Making a Difference

Annelise’s selflessness is inspiring others to get involved. Several of her friends and family members have asked how they can help, and her mother, Melony, says her daughter’s compassion is amazing. The water drive is a great example of how one person can make a difference in their community, and Annelise hopes to continue the legacy of the drive for years to come.
