Kaukauna Police announced the city of Kaukauna did not renew its contract with Flock Safety, the makers of Flock cameras. The decision is based on privacy concerns, such as data sharing, similar to other cities in Northeast Wisconsin that have also ended services with Flock.
Local Impact
Many cities, including Appleton, Grand Chute, Oshkosh, and Sturgeon Bay, have decided to end services with Flock. However, some cities, like Green Bay, still maintain a contract with Flock. Kaukauna Chief of Police Jamie Graff stated that it is not fiscally responsible for the city to continue investing in the Flock Cameras with the concerns that have been raised and the inability to partner with area communities.
The city and Kaukauna Police are committed to using effective tools and investigative strategies to support public safety. Although the city will deactivate the Flock equipment and remove it, it is unclear if Kaukauna will look for a new automated license plate reader (ALPR) vendor.
