Kalshi, a prediction market company, has threatened legal action against Netflix over a trailer for an upcoming documentary about the industry. The trailer, which was released on Thursday, shows traders partying at a mansion in Las Vegas while watching the recent World Cup final and touting their winnings on prediction sites, including Kalshi.
Prediction Markets Under Fire
Kalshi claims that the trailer contains misleading statements and fabricated content, including a screenshot of a trade that the company says was never made on its site. The company has sent a cease-and-desist letter to Netflix, demanding that the trailer be taken down.
The documentary, titled ‘The Prediction Games,’ is set to be released on Sunday. Kalshi’s CEO, Tarek Mansour, is featured in the film, as is the CEO of its biggest rival, Polymarket. However, Kalshi’s head of marketing, Brandon Beckhardt, has stated that the company is unhappy with the final product, saying that Netflix had a chance to make a genuinely interesting documentary but instead made a sensationalized film built on fiction.
Prediction markets have been under fire in recent months, with several states arguing that they are operating as unlicensed casinos. Dozens of lawsuits are underway, with judges in Nevada, Michigan, and Washington state blocking some Kalshi activity in their states.
