A jury has reached a verdict in the trial of Jonathan Rinderknecht, who is accused of starting the deadly Palisades fire in 2025. The fire claimed the lives of a dozen people and scorched thousands of homes and businesses in the Pacific Palisades neighborhood in Los Angeles.
Background of the Case
Jonathan Rinderknecht, a 30-year-old man from Melbourne, Florida, was accused of starting the fire. Prosecutors alleged that Rinderknecht was obsessed with fire and had used a chat app to create dystopian images showing people fleeing from flames. They also claimed that he was fixated on the accused UnitedHealthcare CEO killer and had ranted about capitalism and vigilantism.
The allegations against Rinderknecht were supported by his cell phone records and his false statements to law enforcement. The fire, which started shortly after midnight on New Year’s Day, eventually became known as the Palisades Fire.
Rinderknecht’s attorney told CNN that his client did not commit the crime. The verdict will be read in court shortly.
