Jonesboro Mayor Vows to Keep Flock Cameras After Vandalism Damages Two Units

Four Flock surveillance cameras were shot and destroyed near Jonesboro, Arkansas, over the weekend, according to KAIT, the local ABC affiliate. The vandalism occurred on Saturday in Brookland, about 10 miles northeast of Jonesboro, leaving the city with only one operational Flock camera.

City officials reaffirm commitment to public safety

Mayor Kenneth Jones stressed that the city will not abandon the technology despite the attacks. He noted that one of the destroyed cameras had been instrumental in a missing‑person investigation roughly a year ago, underscoring the tangible benefits of the system.

Police Chief Jon Moore added that car break‑ins have declined since the cameras were installed in March 2023. “The cameras have proven to be an effective tool for deterring crime and aiding investigations,” Chief Moore said, reinforcing the administration’s stance that technology can help keep neighborhoods safe.

Public input encouraged

Mayor Jones invited residents with concerns about the cameras to voice them at upcoming city‑council meetings. He emphasized that community dialogue is essential, but also reiterated that the cameras serve a vital public‑safety function.

Regional context

Jonesboro is not alone in its use of Flock cameras. While some Arkansas municipalities—such as Pea Ridge, Centerton, and Farmington—have recently discontinued the program, the city of Jonesboro remains committed. The Fort Smith Police Department, meanwhile, announced new limits on the use of the cameras, reflecting a broader statewide conversation about surveillance technology.

Looking ahead

The city plans to maintain the remaining camera and explore additional measures to protect it from further vandalism. Officials are also reviewing potential upgrades to the system to ensure continued effectiveness in crime prevention and investigation.

Residents are encouraged to stay informed through city‑council updates and to report any suspicious activity that could threaten public safety assets.
