Johnson County Library is updating its digital resources, providing access to more research tools and databases. Beginning August 1, 2026, the State Library of Kansas will discontinue its statewide subscription to a package of EBSCO research databases. However, Johnson County Library will add a new Gale research package featuring 59 databases, replacing the previous EBSCO collection of about 48 databases.
New Resources
The new Gale research package covers topics ranging from health and business to history, science, literature, and test preparation. The Library is also adding ProQuest One Business, a comprehensive business research resource that includes scholarly journals, market research, industry reports, and company information.
Many popular resources will remain available, including Britannica, Mango Languages, Scholastic BookFlix, and NewsBank newspapers. In many cases, similar or expanded resources will be available through Gale or another Library database.
Database Changes & Alternatives
The following databases will be leaving: Bloom’s Literature, Ferguson’s Career Guidance, Health Reference Center, Today’s Science, World Almanac Kids/InfoLaunch, World Almanac Kids Elementary/InfoLaunch, and World News Digest. Alternative resources include Gale Books & Authors, Gale Literature, Brainfuse Job Now, and NewsBank.
Highlights from the incoming Gale and ProQuest collections include Gale Presents: Peterson’s Test & Career, Gale OneFile, and Gale Health Sciences Research Collection.
