Several communities around Johnson County are hosting a range of activities to celebrate the 250th Anniversary Fourth of July weekend. From big fireworks displays to parades and festivals, there’s something for every family to enjoy.
Local Events
In southern Overland Park, the Red, White & BluHawk event will take place starting at 5 p.m., featuring yard games, bubble soccer, food trucks, music, and an outdoor screen to watch the soccer game. The evening will end with fireworks at 9:30 p.m.
In Prairie Village, the annual Independence Day celebration, VillageFest, will be held at Harmon Park from 7:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. The day will start with a pancake breakfast, followed by a patriotic ceremony and a children’s bicycle parade. There will also be food trucks, inflatables, face painting, games, and entertainment.
Lenexa will host the Lenexa Freedom Run at 7 a.m., followed by the Community Day Parade at 10 a.m. in Old Town. Deanna Rose Children’s Farmstead will host Fourth at the Farm from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m., featuring old-fashioned games, line dancing, face painting, and a bike parade for kids.
Leawood will host Celebration in the Park, starting with a parade at 10 a.m. and followed by a special inflatable slide at the pool from 11:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. The evening will feature food trucks, live music, carnival rides, face painting, and fireworks at 9:45 p.m.
Other events include the Star Spangled Spectacular at Corporate Woods Founders’ Park in Overland Park, featuring food trucks, live music, and fireworks at 10 p.m. Olathe’s annual Fourth of July fireworks display will begin at 9:45 p.m. at the College Boulevard Activity Center.
Riverfest Park in De Soto will host the Freedom at the ‘Fest event, featuring live music from the Mikey Needleman Band, vendors selling local goods, and food offerings. Fireworks will start at 9:45 p.m.
The Overland Park Civic Band will perform a special patriotic concert at Thompson Park, starting at 7 p.m.
