John James, the Republican candidate for governor, has selected Jay DeBoyer, a State House representative, as his running mate. DeBoyer, 56, is serving his second term representing the 63rd House district, which includes St. Clair County and a small portion of Macomb.
DeBoyer’s Experience
DeBoyer has experience as a business owner and has served in local government. Prior to his time in Lansing, he spent 12 years as a clerk and register of deeds for St. Clair County. He also served as Clay Township’s trustee and supervisor. James praised DeBoyer’s ability to work with both parties and his commitment to fighting corruption and protecting core services.
DeBoyer joins James in the race to replace Governor Gretchen Whitmer, who is term-limited. The Democratic primary winner, Jocelyn Benson, has yet to name a running mate for lieutenant governor.
