Joe Burrow Reaffirms Commitment to Cincinnati as Bengals Begin 2026 Season

Quarterback Joe Burrow reiterated his dedication to Cincinnati this week, telling Bengals.com senior writer Geoff Hobson that he is “here for the long haul.” The 2026 season opener against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers at Paycor Stadium will be the first test of his renewed commitment.

Local roots, national ambition

Burrow, the No. 1 overall pick in the 2020 NFL Draft, has already etched his name into Bengals history. He ranks fifth in franchise passing yards (20,810), fourth in passing touchdowns (157) and leads the team in yards per game (270.3). Approaching his 30th birthday, Burrow said his focus is on bringing a Super Bowl championship to the city he calls home.

“That is how I feel. I am where my feet are. I try to attack every day with a championship mindset, like I said before. I love it here. I love everything about this place, so we are going to make it work,” Burrow said in the interview.

Training camp momentum

Entering training camp, Burrow described the Bengals as “ready to go” and highlighted the hard work put in over the past week. “We feel good. We put in a great week of work last week; we got another couple days here but we’re itching to get at it,” he added.

The Bengals are looking to shed the disappointment of three consecutive seasons without a playoff appearance. Burrow’s statements come at a time when fans across Cincinnati are eager for a turnaround and hopeful that the team’s recent investments in talent and coaching will translate into on‑field success.

What this means for Cincinnati fans

For local supporters, Burrow’s pledge offers a reassuring signal that the franchise’s leadership is aligned with the community’s desire for sustained competitiveness. The Bengals’ front office has emphasized continuity in coaching and roster development, and Burrow’s public commitment reinforces that strategy.

Paycor Stadium, located in the heart of the city, will host the opening game on September 13, 2026. The matchup against the Buccaneers provides an early opportunity for the Bengals to test their new approach and for Burrow to demonstrate the championship mindset he described.

Looking ahead

As the season unfolds, Cincinnati residents can expect Burrow to lead the team with the same determination he expressed in his interview. The combination of his personal milestones, the franchise’s historical records, and his explicit promise to stay in Cincinnati sets a hopeful tone for the upcoming NFL campaign.

Whether the Bengals can convert this optimism into a playoff berth—and ultimately a Super Bowl run—remains to be seen, but Burrow’s words signal a clear intention: Cincinnati is his home, and the pursuit of a championship is the goal.
