Joan Cusack Returns to Red Carpet for ‘Toy Story 5’ Premiere

Joan Cusack, a beloved figure in Hollywood known for her comedic roles, has returned to the spotlight after a significant hiatus. The two-time Academy Award nominee made her first red carpet appearance since 2015 at the London premiere of ‘Toy Story 5’ on May 28.

Jessie’s New Adventure

In ‘Toy Story 5,’ Cusack reprises her role as the voice of Jessie, the cowgirl toy. The film, which is set to hit theaters on June 19, centers on Jessie as she helps 8-year-old Bonnie find new friends. Cusack expressed her excitement about the film, stating, ‘This is Jessie’s story. It’s glorious,’ during an interview with Britain’s Virgin Radio UK alongside co-star Tim Allen.

Allen, who has worked with Cusack in the past, praised her performance, saying, ‘This woman comes through.’ The film promises to bring Jessie’s character to the forefront, offering audiences a fresh perspective on the beloved toy.

A Storied Career

Cusack, 63, has been a staple in Hollywood, known for her supporting roles in films like ‘In & Out’ and ‘Working Girl,’ both of which earned her Oscar nominations. She has also collaborated frequently with her brother, John Cusack, appearing in films such as ‘Sixteen Candles’ and ‘High Fidelity.’

Despite her success, Cusack has maintained a relatively low profile in recent years. Her last on-screen appearance was in the TV series ‘Homecoming’ in 2020, and her last film role was in 2019’s ‘Let It Snow.’

Her brother, John Cusack, has often spoken about her impact on his films, describing her as a force of nature on set. ‘She just comes on the set and, you know, like Wile E. Coyote, just runs you over and you’re just like a flat pancake,’ he told TODAY’s Willie Geist in 2020. ‘And then everyone’s really happy. It’s usually the funniest scenes in the movie.’

As Joan Cusack steps back into the limelight, fans are eager to see her bring Jessie to life once more in ‘Toy Story 5.’
