Jets running back Breece Hall set to return for season opener vs. Titans

New York Jets running back Breece Hall announced he will be available for the team’s season‑opening game against the Tennessee Titans on Sunday in Nashville. Hall completed a full practice on Thursday, just over three weeks after sustaining a non‑contact groin strain on Aug. 17.

Recovery and outlook

Hall described his time on the sidelines as a “very good two‑week vacation,” adding that he “could have been out there a little earlier, but the team—I’m thankful they were very cautious with me.” He said he initially “freaked out” when the injury occurred, noting it was his first groin issue and that it began healing “pretty fast.”

Coaching plan

First‑year offensive coordinator Frank Reich told reporters the Jets intend to use Hall in his usual capacity, unless head coach Aaron Glenn and the training staff decide to limit his snaps. Fellow backs Braelon Allen and Isaiah Davis will also be in the rotation and expected to receive touches out of the backfield.

Hall’s recent production

Now 25, Hall is entering his fifth NFL season. He broke the 1,000‑yard rushing mark for the first time last year, posting 1,065 yards and four rushing touchdowns in 16 starts. While he has been utilized as a receiver, his target count dropped from 76 in 2024 to 48 in 2025, and his receptions fell from 57 to 36 after the Jets changed offensive coordinators from Nathaniel Hackett to Tanner Engstrand. Reich becomes Hall’s fourth offensive coordinator in five seasons.

Opponent connections

The matchup in Nashville carries a bit of nostalgia for Hall. The Titans’ defense features former Jets players Jermaine Johnson, John Franklin‑Myers, and Solomon Thomas. Additionally, the Titans are led by former Jets head coach Robert Saleh, who will make his debut as Tennessee’s head coach on Sunday.

What’s at stake

The Jets aim to start the season strong after a 2025 campaign that saw offensive production dip amid coaching changes. Hall’s return provides a boost to the backfield, giving New York a proven runner and reliable pass‑catcher as they look to compete in the AFC East. Fans in New York and Tennessee will be watching to see how Hall’s health and the new offensive scheme translate on the field.

Looking ahead

If Hall remains healthy, the Jets plan to feature him prominently in both the running and passing games throughout the season. The coaching staff emphasized that player safety remains a priority, but confidence in Hall’s recovery suggests he will see a regular workload unless circumstances dictate otherwise.
