Israel’s Response to Trump’s Gaza Peace Plan

Israel’s Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has not publicly accepted or rejected US President Donald Trump’s Gaza peace plan, which aims to disarm Hamas. Instead, Israel has increased airstrikes in the region, resulting in the deaths of 28 people.

Details of the Plan

The plan, unveiled by Trump, calls for a halt to attacks in the region. However, Israel’s actions have drawn criticism from Nickolay Mladenov, the chief envoy for Trump’s Board of Peace, who warned that the violence is undermining efforts to advance the disarmament framework.

Netanyahu’s silence on the plan has been accompanied by statements from his allies, who insist that Israel will not withdraw from the region before Hamas is fully disarmed. The Israeli leader’s position has been relayed through unnamed officials and foreign spokesmen.

International Reaction

The international community has expressed concern over the escalation of violence in the region. Mladenov arrived in Israel on Monday to meet with Netanyahu, alongside Aryeh Lightstone, a senior US adviser to the Board of Peace. The meeting was described as constructive and detailed, with the goal of full decommissioning of weapons and a transition to civilian government in Gaza.

However, the meeting did not prompt a public softening of Netanyahu’s stance, with an Israeli official reiterating that Israel will not withdraw from the current line in the Gaza Strip and will continue to thwart any threat to its civilians and soldiers.
