Iran has intensified its propaganda war with the United States, plastering violent billboards across its capital and utilizing artificial intelligence to generate images mocking President Donald Trump and his administration.
State-Sponsored Billboards
The billboards, which are state-sponsored, feature images such as President Trump lying in a casket and the White House on fire. These images are a stark escalation of the anti-American rhetoric that has long been a staple of Iran’s messaging since the 1979 Islamic Revolution.
One billboard, which was captured by Iranian photojournalists, shows a busy intersection near Tehran’s central Enghelab Square, where a huge billboard featuring benign images of Ayatollah Ali Khamenei was replaced with one of Trump lying in a casket. The billboard includes a death threat aimed at Trump, referencing the sailors killed by a torpedo attack on the Iranian warship Iris Dena by the USS Charlotte attack submarine.
AI-Generated Images
Iran has also used AI to boost its online propaganda efforts throughout the war, with one company, Explosive Media, publishing dozens of Lego-inspired videos mocking Trump and his administration. The company claims it does not work for the Iranian government and that the government does not have a say in the content of its videos.
Trump himself has posted AI-generated images, including some featuring Iran’s ships and energy infrastructure being blown up and taken over by the U.S. military. The use of AI-generated images has become a key component of Iran’s propaganda war, allowing the country to create and disseminate convincing and often disturbing images with ease.
