Reagan Maher, a Newton native and kidney transplant recipient, is celebrating the success of Team Iowa at the Transplant Games of America in Denver. The team, consisting of 966 organ transplant recipients and donors, set a Guinness World Record.
Community Support
Maher, who received his kidney transplant in 2021, was part of the team that won numerous medals at the games. However, he emphasizes that the true value of the event lies in the camaraderie and connections made with others who have undergone similar experiences.
Maher has also started his own support group, Fauna – Transplant Support, which is hosting an event in West Des Moines to celebrate Team Iowa’s success and share stories of transplant recipients.
The event, scheduled for July 7, will feature stories from team members and is open to the public. It will be held at the Lutheran Church of Hope in West Des Moines from 6-8 p.m.
