A five-month-old rescue puppy named Moxie in central Iowa is fighting for her life after being diagnosed with five serious congenital heart defects. Specialists at Iowa State University said a specialized surgery could dramatically improve her quality of life.

The procedure costs more than $11,000, but a generous donor has already covered half of the expense. Animal Lifeline of Iowa is working to raise the remaining amount to give Moxie a chance at a healthier life.
