Iowa Highway 21 in Poweshiek County is set to reopen by June 15 after a train crash killed a 14-year-old boy and derailed over 20 rail cars. The crash occurred on June 3 when a train collided with a semitruck driven by the boy’s father, Michael Orton, who was injured in the crash.
According to officials, some repairs still need to be completed on the track, including fixing signals and guardrails. The train was not carrying hazardous materials.
The Iowa Department of Transportation is working to reopen the highway as soon as possible. The crash is a tragic reminder of the importance of safety on our roads and railways.
