An Indianapolis mother, Makala Pendley, was found dead in a small village in the state of Chiapas, Mexico. She was at least six months pregnant with her unborn child at the time of her death. According to her sister, Maurica Lambert, local authorities told her family that Pendley was brutally murdered, having been raped and beaten to death.

Investigation and Aftermath

The discovery of her body set off a desperate search for her seven children, who were supposed to be with her. On Tuesday afternoon, authorities in Mexico found the children and arrested their father. Pendley had fled to Mexico with her children and their father earlier this year, reportedly out of fear that her children would be taken away from her.

Pendley’s sister described her as a good mom who put her kids before everything else. The children will be returning to Indianapolis along with their mother’s body. The local prosecutor’s office has not commented on the arrest or the investigation.
