The CEO of the Indianapolis Public Library system, Gregory Hill, is in line for a significant raise. If approved by the library board, Hill’s salary would increase from around $205,000 to $265,000 per year. This decision comes after the board voted in May to increase the salary range for the CEO position to as high as $270,000.
Library Board’s Decision
Board president Ray Biederman stated that the raise is appropriate, given Hill’s performance and the need to be competitive with other similar library CEOs. However, not all board members agree. Khaula Murtadha, the board’s vice president, was the only member to vote against the pay range increase, citing concerns about the impact on regular workers.
In 2025, the median salary for a librarian in the state was around $54,500, according to the state’s public employee database. Hill’s pay has increased by about 23% over the same time period. The library board will vote on the CEO’s salary at their next meeting, scheduled for June 22.
