A queer horror comedy film, ‘Jodi’, is set to premiere at Tibbs Drive-In Theatre in Indianapolis. The film, written and directed by local filmmaker Karla Carter, follows a video vixen who loves rock ‘n’ roll and her rockstar girlfriend, and explores the struggles of lower-income neighborhoods.
Local Filmmaker’s Vision
Carter, 38, wrote the screenplay in the spring of 2023 and shopped it to movie studios and streaming services for a year before deciding to make it independently to avoid compromising on the story. The film was made on a budget of around $30,000, which Carter funded through her day job as a massage therapist.
The film features a predominantly queer cast and crew, and Carter hopes it will provide an opportunity for audiences to experience a live screening of a DIY, grassroots, and independent film made by queer people.
‘Jodi’ will be screening at Tibbs Drive-In Theatre from July 17-26.
