Indianapolis Man Arrested After High-Speed Police Pursuit

A routine traffic stop on Indianapolis’ northwest side turned into a dramatic police chase on the evening of May 7, leading to multiple arrests and the recovery of firearms. According to court records, the incident began when officers attempted to pull over a red Jeep Compass near Lafayette Road and 46th Street. The driver, identified as 24-year-old Daequan Curothers, failed to use a turn signal, prompting the stop.

Officers reported that Curothers refused to comply with repeated commands and sped away, initiating a pursuit through several neighborhoods. During the chase, a small bag was thrown from the SUV, which was later found to contain marijuana. The chase concluded on Guion Road after state police employed a maneuver to stop the vehicle, causing it to roll over. Despite the crash, all three occupants were unharmed and subsequently taken into custody.

A search of the vehicle revealed a loaded Anderson Arms AM-15 rifle and a loaded Glock 23 handgun. Court records indicate that Curothers has a prior robbery conviction and was wanted on an active armed robbery warrant at the time of his arrest. He now faces additional charges, including resisting law enforcement and unlawful possession of a firearm.
