Indianapolis is making a splash this week as the city plays host to the 2026 Pro Swim Series, with elite swimmers from across the country converging on the IU Indianapolis Natatorium for one of the premier events on the USA Swimming calendar.
Night one of the competition delivered a historic highlight when Van Mathias set an American Record, electrifying the crowd and putting the Indianapolis meet on the national map in a big way. The record-breaking swim was captured on video and shared widely, drawing attention to the city’s role as a premier destination for competitive aquatics.
The excitement didn’t stop there. Fifteen-year-old Yi Zheng turned in a remarkable 1:59.65 in the 200 individual medley — the third-fastest time ever recorded by a swimmer in the 15-16 age group. Meanwhile, veteran Michael Andrew clocked a 26.75 in the 50 breaststroke prelims, his fastest time since 2022, signaling a strong return to form for the fan favorite.
Adding to the festivities, the IU Indianapolis Natatorium also recently wrapped up the inaugural Midwest Summer Festival, a USA Water Polo event that brought young athletes and families together at the same world-class facility. The successful conclusion of that first-ever festival underscores Indianapolis’s growing reputation as a hub for aquatic sports at every level.
Together, these events showcase Indianapolis as a city that continues to attract top-tier athletic competition while giving local fans unforgettable moments right in their own backyard.
