Indiana Seeks Feedback from SNAP Recipients on Healthy Food Program

The Indiana Family and Social Services Administration is reaching out to recipients of the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) for their input on the state’s new initiative, ‘Healthy Food, Healthy Life.’ Starting Tuesday, SNAP recipients are encouraged to participate in a survey designed to evaluate the effectiveness of the Smart SNAP program, which was launched on January 1 under Governor Mike Braun’s Make Indiana Healthy Again initiative.

Smart SNAP Program

The Smart SNAP program aims to promote healthier eating habits by restricting the purchase of sugary drinks and candy with SNAP benefits. This initiative is part of a broader effort to improve the health and nutrition of Indiana residents. The survey, which will be conducted every six months, seeks to gather valuable insights into the shopping habits, nutrition knowledge, and eating behaviors of SNAP recipients.

Eligible participants will receive a text message from the number 43816, containing a link to the survey. State officials emphasize that participation in the survey is entirely voluntary and will not impact the benefits recipients receive. The feedback collected will help the state assess the program’s impact and make any necessary adjustments to better serve the community.

Governor’s Health Initiative

Governor Mike Braun’s Make Indiana Healthy Again initiative underscores the importance of promoting healthier lifestyles across the state. By focusing on nutrition and wellness, the administration aims to address public health concerns and improve the overall quality of life for Indiana residents. The Smart SNAP program is a key component of this initiative, reflecting a commitment to fostering healthier communities through informed choices and responsible use of resources.
