Indiana Hoosiers Dominate North Texas 52-16 in Season Opener

Bloomington, Indiana – The Indiana Hoosiers kicked off their national title defense with a commanding 52‑16 win over North Texas on Saturday at Memorial Stadium. The victory showcased a balanced attack, solid special‑team play, and a stout defensive effort.

Offensive fireworks

Quarterback Josh Hoover threw for 231 yards and four touchdowns in his Indiana debut. He opened the scoring with a strike to Nick Marsh on the first drive. Later, Charlie Becker hauled in two touchdown passes, including a 35‑yard strike early in the third quarter. Indianapolis native Davion Chandler added a 30‑yard touchdown reception in the fourth quarter.

Ground game and special teams

Running back Turbo Richard contributed two rushing scores, a 2‑yard plunge in the first quarter and a 1‑yard plunge in the fourth. The Hoosiers also benefited from excellent field position thanks to their return unit. Lee Beebe Jr. returned the opening kickoff 67 yards to the North Texas 20‑yard line, and Tyler Morris later returned a punt to the 30‑yard line, setting up another score.

Defensive highlights

Indiana built a 24‑6 halftime lead, though North Texas answered with a 75‑yard touchdown drive to start the second half. Former Indiana quarterback Tayven Jackson started for North Texas, completing 18 of 21 passes for 154 yards. The Hoosiers re‑established control in the fourth quarter when Quan Sanks intercepted Jackson, and Grant Wilson added a quarterback keeper.

kicker Nico Radicic capped the scoring with a career‑best 49‑yard field goal.

Looking ahead

Following the dominant performance, the Hoosiers will host Howard next Saturday, aiming to continue their strong start to the season.
