Bloomfield, Ind. – On Monday, Governor Mike Braun, Indiana Secretary of Education Katie Jenner and other state officials toured Bloomfield Middle and High School to spotlight the Indiana Cybersecurity Partnership, a newly launched, statewide pathway that links high‑school coursework with college, careers and the Indiana National Guard.
Program details and student demonstrations
Students demonstrated skills they are learning through Project Lead the Way (PLTW) cybersecurity courses and Advanced Placement (AP) cybersecurity classes. The partnership, announced in May, is billed as the first state‑wide, military‑aligned cybersecurity track that allows schools to use AP, PLTW, dual‑credit courses or any combination of those programs.
Through the pathway, participants can earn college credit, gain work‑based learning experience and pursue industry‑recognized credentials while preparing for cybersecurity careers or service in the Indiana National Guard.
Statewide impact and expansion plans
According to the Indiana Department of Education, the state currently has more than 20,000 open cybersecurity positions. About 69 public high schools already offer cybersecurity courses to roughly 560 students. The administration plans to expand the program to 200 high schools, serving about 4,000 students over the next three years.
Officials said the pathway gives students multiple options after graduation: continue their education, enter the workforce, or enlist in the Indiana National Guard for cybersecurity‑related service.
Local relevance
The Bloomfield visit included classroom demonstrations and discussions on how schools can adopt the pathway based on staffing, schedules and student needs. Community leaders praised the initiative for providing local youth with skills that match a growing demand in the tech sector while reinforcing the state’s commitment to national security.
“This program puts Indiana students on the front line of the digital economy and gives families a clear, future‑focused career path,” said Secretary Jenner.
Looking ahead
State officials will continue to work with school districts across Indiana to replicate the Bloomfield model, ensuring that more students can benefit from hands‑on cybersecurity training, college credit and potential military service opportunities.
