Katherine Gries of Greenwood is one of four Indiana athletes selected for the U.S. team Special Olympics trials. Gries, 24, will compete in track and field at the trials in Pittsburgh this September.
Years of Hard Work and Dedication
According to Special Olympics Indiana President and CEO Jeff Mohler, being nominated for the U.S. team trials is a testament to years of hard work, determination, and dedication to their sports. The other Indiana athletes invited to the trials will join Gries in competing for a spot on the world stage in Santiago, Chile, at the 2027 Special Olympics World Games.
Gries began participating in Special Olympics Indiana a few years ago as a way to get to know families in the area. She also swims and plays softball and basketball. Her mother, Rachel Gries, said the experience has been great, with supportive coaches and like-minded parents.
