Serve Idaho, the state’s commission for community service and volunteerism, has received more than $3.9 million in federal AmeriCorps funding to expand service opportunities across the state.
AmeriCorps Funding
The commission administers AmeriCorps programs in Idaho and promotes volunteerism through partnerships with public, private and nonprofit organizations. AmeriCorps awarded $2.1 million in competitive funding to support programs at Idaho State University and the Student Conservation Association. It also provided $1.8 million in formula funding to aid the University of Idaho, Palouse-Clearwater Environmental Institute, Teach for America and the Central Idaho Mountain Bike Association.
The funding will help organizations recruit, train and supervise AmeriCorps volunteers. AmeriCorps members who complete their service term earn a Segal AmeriCorps Education Award, which can be used to repay qualified student loans or education expenses.
