Plainclothes Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) agents attempted to arrest a man, Phu Nguyen, at Harry Reid International Airport in Las Vegas, but left him partially handcuffed after being confronted by onlookers. The incident occurred on Monday, and a video of the encounter has been obtained by CNN.

The video shows the ICE agents, a woman and a man, attempting to arrest Nguyen, a 57-year-old citizen of Australia who was born in Vietnam. The agents can be seen handcuffing Nguyen, but after being confronted by onlookers, they walked away, leaving him partially handcuffed.

A uniformed Transportation Security Administration (TSA) officer stood in front of the agents and the man, creating a makeshift perimeter, and told the crowd to back up. The ICE agents then left the scene, and the TSA officer removed the handcuffs from Nguyen’s wrist.

Aftermath

Nguyen was taken into custody the following day at Los Angeles International Airport, according to the Department of Homeland Security. The agency said Nguyen had a visa that expired in 2015 and had refused to depart the United States in violation of the nation’s laws.

Nguyen is being held at the Adelanto ICE Processing Center, and the Department of Homeland Security said he will receive full due process and remain in ICE custody pending the outcome of his removal proceedings.
