Hutto Independent School District has officially welcomed April Adams and Felix Chavez to its board of trustees following the recent May election. The swearing-in ceremony took place on May 28, marking a new chapter for the district’s leadership.
New Leadership
April Adams, a newcomer to the board, and Felix Chavez, who is embarking on his third term, were both victorious in the May 2 election. They successfully ran against candidates Lynn Green, Taylor Lopez, and Sam Martinez. Their roles as trustees are at-large, meaning they represent the entire community rather than specific districts. Each will serve a three-year term, contributing to the governance and oversight of the district’s educational policies and initiatives.
Board Changes
The installation of Adams and Chavez comes as Shara Turner, a dedicated board member since 2020, retires after two terms of service. The board also saw a reshuffling of its officers, with Felix Chavez being elected as the new board president. James Matlock will serve as vice president, and Shannon Jacobs takes on the role of board secretary.
Looking Ahead
The next board election is scheduled for May 2027, when the terms of current board President Amy English and trustee James Matlock will expire. The community will once again have the opportunity to shape the direction of Hutto ISD through their votes.
