Huntsville downtown bars add security and staff for Saturday Halloween festivities

Halloween falls on Saturday this year, giving Huntsville residents an extra hour of evening activity after the clocks fall back early Sunday. Downtown bar owners are using that bonus time to prepare for what they expect to be a bustling night.

Extra staff and security on the floor

Matt Hubbard, owner of Field Day, says planning ahead is essential. “Part of that is having some extra staff here. Of course, fast service is something that we really want to emphasize on a Halloween night. But also, we’ll have security here, making sure everybody’s safe,” Hubbard explained.

Jen Kauffman, event coordinator at Furniture Factory, echoed the sentiment. “We always have extra security. But I mean, really, we’re planning on extra liquor, better drinks, more of them, lots of bar food,” she said, adding that the extra hour from the daylight‑saving change will allow the venue to serve patrons longer.

“I say, yes, let’s just go for it. We want to take advantage of every spare minute,” Kauffman added, emphasizing the venue’s commitment to maximizing the holiday’s limited timeframe.

Baker & Able creates a safe environment for all ages

Stephane Schneider, food and beverage manager at Baker & Able, said the establishment is taking additional precautions specific to Halloween. Security will be on site from 4 p.m. until midnight, and the venue will be closed to minors for the evening. “We want to make it like a safe environment for everybody. So, we’re gonna have security starting at 4 o’clock and all the way until midnight,” Schneider said.

Schneider also noted that the bar has stocked up on food and drinks to meet demand. “We are stocked up. I mean, there is no way people are gonna make us run out of anything,” he said confidently.

Community impact and future outlook

Local officials have praised the proactive steps taken by downtown businesses, noting that a well‑secured, family‑friendly atmosphere aligns with Huntsville’s broader goals of fostering safe public spaces while supporting the local economy. The extra hour created by the time change is expected to boost revenue for bars and restaurants, providing a welcome lift after a year of pandemic‑related challenges.

Halloween will not fall on a Saturday again until 2037, making this year’s celebration a rare opportunity for Huntsville’s nightlife to shine. Bar owners remain optimistic that their preparations will not only protect patrons but also showcase the city’s vibrant hospitality sector.
