As summer temperatures rise, many Americans are concerned about their home energy bills. A recent HarrisX survey found that nearly 8 in 10 U.S. adults (79%) are worried about their energy bills this summer, with 75% specifically concerned about the impact of heat waves on their costs.
Energy Efficiency Upgrades
Despite these concerns, many homeowners have yet to make energy-efficient upgrades to their homes. The survey found that 83% of homeowners believe installing a more energy-efficient HVAC system would help make their homes more efficient, but only 30% have actually made this upgrade.
The main obstacle for homeowners who have not made energy-efficient upgrades is the upfront cost. Among those who have not upgraded their HVAC systems, 42% say the initial expense is the primary reason they have delayed doing so.
However, there are other steps homeowners can take to reduce their energy consumption. Sealing air leaks, improving insulation, installing programmable or smart thermostats, replacing air filters regularly, and scheduling routine HVAC maintenance can all help improve system performance and reduce energy consumption.
