Midwest Poultry Services, a Texas-based poultry firm, is recalling nearly 1.6 million dozen white shell eggs and brown cage-free shell eggs produced in the state. The recall is due to the potential contamination with Salmonella Enteritidis, according to the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA).

The recalled eggs were available at Kroger stores in Texas and Louisiana, as well as Brookshire Grocery stores in states including Oklahoma, Arkansas, and Mississippi. No illnesses have been reported in connection with the recalled eggs.

Midwest Poultry Services has halted the distribution of eggs produced on its Texas farms. The FDA stated that Salmonella Enteritidis is a bacterium that can live on either the outside or inside of eggs and cause foodborne illness, with symptoms including cramps, diarrhea, nausea, vomiting, chills, fever, and headaches within 12 to 72 hours after eating.
