A grandfather in his 70s is fighting for his life after an early morning fire broke out in a townhome in the 2800 block of Pierce Street in Hollywood. The man, who was trapped on the second floor with his daughter and two grandchildren, escaped through a window but sustained a major head injury in the process.
Fire Rescue Efforts
Fire rescue officials reported that the fire started in the kitchen and blocked the staircase, trapping the family upstairs. The grandfather’s cries for help were heard by a neighbor, who called 911 and stayed with him until first responders arrived.
The mother and two children were also rescued from the burning home and were transported to a hospital, where they are reportedly doing okay. Three officers who responded to the scene were also taken to the hospital as a precaution.
The cause of the fire is currently under investigation.
