The Cora Post Office, located in Sublette County, Wyoming, is a historic community hub that has been serving the Upper Green River Valley since the 1890s. The post office, which was originally located at the Noble Ranch, was moved to its current site in 1919.
A Vital Community Institution
Despite its remote location, the Cora Post Office has endured for over a century, with early mail sometimes carried on a gray stallion to Big Piney, a 70-mile round trip. The post office was slated for closure by the U.S. Postal Service in 2011, but residents protested for its retention as a vital community icon.
The Cora townsite was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 2017. The post office building is constructed of hand-hewn logs transported from the Upper Green River and features a central meeting place with local historic memorabilia.
