Historic Claiborne Kyle Log House Reopens in Hays County

The Claiborne Kyle Log House, a significant piece of Hays County’s history, has reopened its doors to the public after being closed for six years. Originally shut down in 2020 due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the historic site welcomed visitors again on May 30, unveiling a new roof and fresh exhibits.

A Glimpse into the Past

Built in 1850 by Claiborne Kyle, the log house is a unique four-pen liner dogtrot home, the only one of its kind still standing at its original location. Situated along the historic Austin-San Antonio stagecoach route, the house offers a window into the past for residents and visitors alike. Claiborne Kyle was the father of Fergus Kyle, the founder of the city of Kyle, adding to the site’s historical significance.

Community Engagement and Restoration Efforts

The Claiborne Kyle Log House Commission, led by Chairman Kate Johnson, continues to raise funds to support ongoing restoration efforts. The property is open to the public every Saturday, providing an opportunity for families and history enthusiasts to explore the site and learn about its rich heritage. However, the house will be closed in July due to the summer heat, allowing crews to perform additional restoration work.

For those interested in visiting, the Claiborne Kyle Log House is located at 2400 Old Stagecoach Road in Kyle. More information can be found on their website at www.kyleloghouse.org.
