Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office deputies arrested Jonathan Terry, 42, on Thursday evening in the 15000 block of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard in Dover, Fla. Terry, a convicted felon who has been wanted in Kentucky and Indiana for four years, was discovered hiding under a shed overhang.
Arrest details
The sheriff’s aviation unit located Terry and kept visual on him while ground deputies moved in. When officers approached, Terry reached into his clothing and tossed a pair of brass knuckles under a vehicle. After detaining him, deputies found a handcuff key taped inside his underwear.
Charges
In addition to the out‑of‑state warrants, Terry now faces two new charges in Hillsborough County: felon carrying a concealed weapon and possession of a concealed handcuff key.
Background
According to the sheriff’s office, Terry was originally wanted for violating probation on a controlled‑substance possession charge and for failing to appear on a methamphetamine possession charge. He has been a fugitive for four years.
Official response
Hillsborough County Sheriff Chad Chronister said, “This convicted felon, wanted in two states, underestimated the skill and determination of HCSO. He now faces new charges here and must answer for his crimes in Indiana and Kentucky.”
Next steps
It remains unclear when the extradition process will begin to transfer Terry back to the authorities in Kentucky and Indiana.
