A hiker with a left-ankle injury was rescued at Embudo Trailhead in Albuquerque. Albuquerque Fire Rescue responded to the report on July 11 around 7:52 p.m.
AFR crews obtained a visual of the patient from the trailhead parking lot, and Albuquerque Police Department Open Space officers were notified and assisted with search and rescue operations. The AFR Technical Rescue Team remained available as a tactical reserve unit.
Engine 8 and Rescue 8 made rapid contact with the patient and assessed the injury. The injury was stabilized, and the hiker was placed in a wheeled stokes basket for transport back to the trailhead. At the trailhead, AFR personnel provided additional treatment before Albuquerque Ambulance transported the patient to a local hospital.
