High-Speed Pursuit on I-40 Ends in Arrest and Crash

In a dramatic sequence on April 26, Arkansas State Police engaged in a high-speed pursuit on Interstate 40 in St. Francis County, Arkansas, which culminated in the arrest of Brendan Durr. The chase began when Trooper Peoples observed a blue Nissan Sentra speeding at 94 mph in a 75 mph zone. The vehicle, driven by Durr, later reached speeds exceeding 100 mph.

Pursuit Details

According to the Arkansas State Police report, the incident unfolded at approximately 5:41 p.m. Trooper Peoples, traveling eastbound on I-40, detected the speeding vehicle using rear radar. After allowing the Nissan to pass, Peoples initiated a traffic stop. The driver, who initially identified himself as Antun Hester, admitted to not having a driver’s license.

As the trooper returned to the vehicle, Durr fled, leading to a pursuit that saw the Nissan passing multiple vehicles on the left shoulder. The chase continued until Peoples executed a tactical vehicle intervention near the 250-mile marker, causing the Nissan to collide with a guardrail and veer into a roadside ditch.

Aftermath and Arrest

Following the crash, Durr attempted to escape on foot, crossing a barbed-wire fence and heading toward St. Francis County Road 426. Despite deploying a Taser, Peoples was initially unable to apprehend Durr, who eventually complied with commands to surrender after failing to find an exit through a fence.

An inventory search of the vehicle revealed a bag of ammunition in the armrest, though no firearm was discovered. The incident resulted in approximately $10,000 in damage to both the suspect’s vehicle and a state guardrail. Durr was charged with multiple offenses, including fleeing, reckless driving, and obstructing governmental operations. He was transported to the St. Francis County Detention Center.

All suspects are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
