HHS Secretary Kennedy Praises President Trump at Anti‑Vaccine Conference

In a nationally televised keynote at the Children’s Health Defense conference, Health and Human Services Secretary Robert F. Kennedy Jr. received a standing ovation from an audience of vaccine‑skeptic activists. Kennedy, a founder of the group, used the platform to highlight the Trump administration’s recent efforts to curb chronic disease by limiting food dyes and ultraprocessed foods in federal nutrition programs, promote regenerative farming, and fund research into the health impacts of electromagnetic fields.

Trump’s Support for Vaccine‑Skeptics

When the discussion turned to vaccines, Kennedy praised President Donald Trump, stating, “You have a strong and steadfast friend at the White House.” He added that the president would not treat parents who question vaccine orthodoxy as outcasts, emphasizing that the administration has preserved vaccine access while “asking the questions that you and millions of American parents have been asking for years.”

Policy Actions and Controversy

Since taking office, Kennedy has pursued sweeping changes to U.S. vaccine policy. He narrowed CDC COVID‑19 vaccine guidance, requiring patients to consult a health‑care provider before receiving the shot. In October, he created a working group outside the traditional CDC advisory structure to assess vaccine safety, effectiveness, and timing for children and adolescents.

These moves have drawn sharp criticism from major medical organizations. The American Academy of Pediatrics and other groups sued to block Kennedy’s proposal to remove six diseases from the recommended childhood vaccine schedule, arguing there is no medical evidence to support such a change. A federal judge paused the revisions in March, and later ruled that Kennedy’s June 2025 replacement of the CDC’s Advisory Committee on Immunization Practices (ACIP) did not follow proper legal procedures.

Legal Challenges and Ongoing Litigation

U.S. District Judge Brian E. Murphy noted that only six of the fifteen members of the newly appointed ACIP panel appear to have meaningful vaccine experience. Many of the appointees have publicly expressed anti‑vaccine views. The HHS has appealed the ruling and requested an expedited review.

Kennedy’s supporters argue that the current vaccine system, including the Vaccine Adverse Event Reporting System (VAERS), is “very bad” and fails to capture the true incidence of rare vaccine injuries. He contended that while such injuries are likely “very rare,” the lack of transparent data prevents a genuine scientific assessment.

Measles Outbreak Context

The conference took place amid the worst measles outbreak in the United States in decades, with over 3,200 cases reported this year and four deaths in Pennsylvania, including two infants. Kennedy made a brief reference to measles, urging the audience to consider children harmed by vaccine injuries alongside those suffering from preventable diseases.

Administration’s Response

In response to criticism, the Trump administration has reiterated its commitment to parental rights and medical freedom, emphasizing that no vaccines have been taken away and that the government is simply fostering open dialogue about vaccine safety.

Looking Ahead

Kennedy concluded his remarks by pledging to remain in the fight for what he calls “medical freedom,” noting his 40‑year history of challenging entrenched health‑care institutions. He warned that powerful interests will continue to resist change, but affirmed his resolve to push for a health system that prioritizes prevention and transparency.

As the national debate over vaccine policy intensifies, the Trump administration’s alignment with vaccine‑skeptic groups underscores a broader shift toward empowering parental choice and scrutinizing federal health directives.
