Hernando County drivers should prepare for travel delays this week as roadwork crews shut down lanes along two major routes.
Lane Closures Scheduled
The Florida Department of Transportation (FDOT) District 7 has released its lane closure schedule for the week of August 16 through August 22, 2026, outlining overnight work on Cortez Boulevard and a full-day operation along U.S. Highway 301.
Along US 98 / State Road 50 (Cortez Boulevard), crews are scheduled to close lanes at the intersection of Mondon Hill Road and Spring Lake Highway. The work will run nightly starting Sunday, August 16, through Thursday night, August 20. Closures will begin each evening at 8 p.m. and conclude by 6:30 a.m. the following morning to minimize congestion during peak commuter hours.
Separately, daytime drivers near the southern border of the county will encounter delays on Monday, August 17. FDOT will implement lane closures and manual flagging operations on U.S. 301 at the Withlacoochee River bridge, located right at the boundary between Pasco and Hernando counties.
The operation will remain in place from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m.
Motorists traveling through both project zones are encouraged to allow extra travel time, reduce speeds, and watch for active work crews and directional signage throughout the week.
