Henry Ruggs III Denied Parole

Former Alabama and Raiders wide receiver Henry Ruggs III was denied parole on Thursday, nearly five years after he caused a deadly car crash that killed 23-year-old Tina Tintor and her dog.

Ruggs, a former first-round pick out of the University of Alabama to the Las Vegas Raiders, drove his sports car at speeds up to 156 miles per hour in November 2021, slamming into Tintor’s car. After the crash, prosecutors said Ruggs’ blood-alcohol level was 0.16%, twice the legal limit.

Background

Ruggs pleaded guilty in May 2023 to two charges: felony DUI causing death and misdemeanor vehicular manslaughter, and was sentenced to a 3-to-10-year prison sentence in August 2023. According to a report by the Associated Press, Ruggs will go before the parole board again prior to his August 24, 2027, mandatory parole release date.

Ruggs spent three seasons as a wide receiver at the University of Alabama, where he amassed 1,716 receiving yards and 24 touchdowns. The Raiders drafted Ruggs with the 12th pick in the 2020 NFL draft, where he spent a season and a half with the team prior to his 2021 arrest.
