Heloise shares advice on protecting hearing and more in her latest column. A reader, Jeannette B. from Newbury Park, California, wrote to Heloise about her concerns regarding preserving her hearing. Jeannette uses foam earplugs when using her blow dryer to help block out the noise.
Heloise’s Response
Heloise responded by stating that many people damage their ears with loud noises at work, concerts, or by wearing devices in or on their ears. The damage may not show up right away but will eventually appear.
Hidden Treasure
A reader, Paula D. from Sahuarita, Arizona, shared a story about her sister finding their mother’s wedding ring, engagement ring, and other expensive rings in a cough drop can while cleaning out their deceased parents’ home. Paula warned readers to be careful when throwing away old items as elderly family members may stash valuable items in unexpected containers.
Unused Dinnerware
A reader, Deb B. from The Villages, Florida, asked Heloise for advice on what to do with a full set of china dinnerware that is in excellent condition but has only been used a few times. Heloise suggested donating it to Habitat for Humanity or offering it to a church for a family in need.
